Discovering Beautiful Fun Watching the Progression of a Sunrise

The Intro…

Hey ya’ll! Do you realize it only takes a couple of minutes for the sun to rise over the horizon?

Well, it was another beautiful sunrise out there! I happened to be here at home in Corpus Christi, Texas on Whitecap Beach. Sidenote – my granddaughters call it Gran-Li’s Beach, which I love the sound of and prefer to use.

Somewhere in the AM, the clock’s shorthand pointed to the number 6 while the long hand was passing between the numbers 12 and 6. Stepping out the back door of the house, I gasped and stood still wide-eyed being greeted by the clear sky. The creative artist was showing off the black of night, stars twinkling along with the moon sliver shining above a distinct line of light pink fading into darker hues of pinkish-purply color moving down the horizon to meet the earth. I know, my color descriptions probably aren’t even real words but I like ‘em!

The Details…

My bewildered eyes were accompanied by chilled skin being whisked with the cool morning air. One foot in front of the other, I was on the move again. The corner of my lips curled upwards as I caught a glimpse of a different blue color. My feet followed the morning routine and passed in front of Chief Pegasus, the name I coined for my little blue Jeep. I was on a mission – the game’s afoot. Sliding behind the wheel and pulling the door shut, I turned the key and drove straight into the pink-purple horizon. Once Chief Pegasus and I found where the sand fades under the salt water, I turned the key again cutting off the engine.  My hope of beating the sun was fulfilled. My mother taught me how to have fun in every day life circumstances. This is the little game the sun and I play – who will arrive first?

The Why…

I won – I got there first that day!

And now I could capture on film the arrival of that big golden ball hidden below the horizon that’s been splashing the colors before me starting to light up the night.

The canvas was set for a spectacular color show. Predominantly clear skies all around painted with a few streaks of clouds in the far distance where the distinct deep dark blue water line meets the slightly brighter blue sky. The clouds proudly puff to enhance the colors that reflect as hues change from deep purple fading to light pink and finally settling into white with the grand arising of the morning light. The water waves as if excited to cheer on another arrival of a new day. Seagulls hop along for take-off into flight while squawking a ‘good morning’ greeting.

The Sum Up…

Me, I stride along, stopping frequently to snap photos on my phone while relishing my surroundings. I am always astounded that I think the first morning light is the most beautiful. No – the rising light is the most beautiful. No, wait – the full-on light is the most beautiful. But, realistically, it is the most beautiful each moment in its own painted way. We are each much like the progression of a sunrise. Changing vastly with every passing second but most beautiful in each moment.
