A Clontarf Castle Healing Adventure – Where I Felt Like a Queen

The Intro…

Hey ya’ll! Did you know you can experience healing moments anywhere, even among castles in Ireland where you feel like Royalty?

A few months ago, my son, daughter-in-law (DIL) and I flew into Dublin, Ireland. Our trip was quite entertaining from the get-go, check out my blog post: When Life Doesn’t Go as Planned – From Israel to Ireland. Plans before going included scoping out castle stays. We booked our first night at Clontarf Castle Hotel. Oh, how I felt like a Queen!

The staff excelled in royal service. The modern suit-cut uniforms and Irish accents made me feel as if I were “Her Majesty” of Clontarf Castle. Entering my room, I sighed happily seeing the blue velvet curtains framing the window. It’s as if the staff, knowing my favorite color, made sure to book me in this room. The telly held a personal note of hello, addressed to my proper name.

Wondering about the citadel, I explored all the nooks and crannies. The castle structure brought a royal home essence to me. “I am the Queen and this is my home!” Words made up the thoughts speaking in my mind. It is fun to pretend.

The Details…

Clontarf Castle nestles a couple of blocks off the Dublin bay. History grounds deep through time as the fortress walls forged into the present-day Clontarf Castle Hotel. Modern architecture meets medieval construction.

The time of year found white twinkle lights outlining the tower structure and beautifully decorated trees inside. “Christmas is coming!” Seemingly announced from the lion statues. Striding through the automatic sliding glass doors, I was greeted by the Knight’s shining armor standing guard at the bottom of the stories tall gray rock wall. Wonderment captured my thoughts as the grand fireplace warmed the room and begged my presence to sit awhile. Family-crested flags majestically adorned walls and laid claim to the heritage of past owners. Purple, the obvious color of choice, accompanied the décor and emitted fairy-tale vibes to all guests.

The Why…

Clontarf Castle, today known as Clontarf Castle Hotel, held strategic healing adventures for me. You see, holidays, sometimes, are wrapped in traditions. When a life-shattering moment occurs, holidays that follow can be difficult. Emotions attached to what life held before and wondering what now can stir inside a person. As I explored the castle grounds, in the midst of the Christmas decorations, I couldn’t help but think of the stories embedded in those rock walls. The weather, wars and wild events over time created a strong fortress that pivoted into a new life.

Christmas traditions of the past gave way to the modern celebrations. The Castle and I resonate. It made it, I made it. The silent conversation encourages me. There is beauty in what was that can be remade into what is and still be a part of what is to come.

Clontarf Castle and I were created 100’s of years apart but planned with journeys destined to intersect. It was meant to be a part of my healing story – My Castle for a Night! A place for me to be reminded that I am a Queen.

I am grateful that life allows moments for healing in the most unexpected places!

The Sum Up…

Once upon a time, I stayed in an Irish Castle.

I choose to live happily ever after.

My Once Upon a Time Poem:

My Once Upon a Time

Once upon a time, my life shattered
I got angry - I cried - I hurt
I started taking steps to heal

I took a trip abroad, I stayed in a castle
I felt royal - I breathed - I thanked
I kept taking steps to heal

Now here I am feeling different
I love life - I smile - I laugh
I keep taking steps to heal!
